5 Tips for Sticking to a Movement Plan

Sticking to a movement plan can be challenging, especially when living with chronic pain. Below are tips to help you stay moving and stick to a plan!

Set Realistic Goals:

Setting short-term specific and achievable goals can make it easier for you to see progress. This can help you stay motivated to stick to a plan.

Enlist Support:

Having friends, family, or online groups that you regularly check in with, or do movement with, can help keep you accountable to a plan.

Focus on Feelings:

How do you feel after or during movement? Are there specific movements your body likes more? Do you notice more energy or better mental health with movement? Use these cues to find what works best for you.

Don’t Rely on Motivation:

You may have many days with little to no motivation. Instead of waiting until you feel motivated to move, tell yourself you’ll do 2 minutes of movement. Often times once you start, you’ll want to keep going! If you don’t end up continuing to move, that is totally okay too. You get to choose what is best for you and your body.

Look Back on Progress:

Take time to acknowledge what you have achieved. There will be ebbs and flows in your movement journey. Remember to congratulate yourself on how far you’ve come.

I’d love to hear any tips that you use to help you stay motivated with movement. Feel free to leave a comment and share your favourite tips.
